The Art of Growing Club- upcoming delights for January, February and March 2011

The Art of Growing Club begins the new decade on a high, with a series of exciting art workshops planned until the end of March. All our workshops are facilitated by professional artists, and are suitable for all; beginners are very welcome.  We also spend time growing plants, herbs and salads on the beautiful patio outside our Education Space, which overlooks the canal. People can bring some of this home to grow on their windowsill or in their garden. We also take short walks in the local area, either along the canal or in the nearby Victoria and Mile End parks, or to local community groups, such as St Mary’s Secret Garden or to local allotments.

The Art of Growing Club takes place on Wednesday mornings during term time between 10 am and 1pm.

January 12th and 19th :  Malcolm Jones continues his inspiring classes in Landscape Painting.
January 26th: Charlotte Mew will lead a workshop involving creative collage. The Women’s Environmental Network will be joining us for this session and will give us tips on creating a beautiful and healthy bloom for Spring.
February 2nd and 9th: Uliana Apatina will show us how to use music to create imaginative painting.
February 16th, March 2nd and 9th: Kevin Harrison will lead workshops on working with wood to create simple and effective sculptures.
March 16th; Charlotte Mew will take us on a creative stroll through the local neighbourhood to gather inspiration for making and growing.
March 23rd and 30th: We will make colour and black and white cast prints with Jon George.

Our two wonderful volunteers, photographer Maria Andrews and the green fingered Yasmin Kauser will be present at each session, along with plenty of tea and chat.
The Art of Growing Club is free and all materials are provided.

Join Emma Gunningham, professional painter, to explore the links between painting and drawing using a variety of techniques and art materials along with digital photography.  We will look at ways to improve observational skills required  to paint and draw Portraits and Still Life.

Students should bring along a range of materials- pencils, charcoal, coloured pencils, pastels, acrylic, gouache and watercolour – and a digital or phone camera if they have one.

Numbers are kept low to ensure that every person is given plenty of individual attention. The course is suitable for beginners and more advanced students alike.

Classes will take place on  Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9.30pm  in our Education Space bordering the canal. Classes will begin on 3rd March and run for 6 weeks. The last class will be on 7th April . The cost for the full course will be £90, payable in advance. For more information and to book a place, contact: 07940 563063
