The next resident of Studio 4 will be Sheena Macrae, during March & April 2013. Macrae is currently working on pieces for an upcoming exhibition later this year in Australia, as part of the Ballerat International Foto Biennale.

During the residency Sheena will use the large space to explore angles and forms in space to realise multiple draft installations. The work will concentrate on the relationship between the reproduction and representation in relation to the hyper-real constructs of cinema, using the Projectionist – a series originated from research into the urban film legend that projectionists stole frames from the populist films they screened – as new raw material to rework.

She will be looking at the architectural and spatial aspects of the work enabled by the larger working space and rooted in the epic and cinematic experience. The large studio space will additionally allow Sheena to resolve work for the exhibition in Australia and provide a rare chance to test out and explore large-scale installations in quick set ups and come up with the final work for the Foto Biennale.

After Sheena, the next residency in Studio4 has been awarded to artist Sam Hodge whose project will involve making new etchings in response to the broken windows in the former brewery next to Chisenhale Art Place.

Studio4 -Vivienne Griffin hosts end of Residency Show

On 30th of January 2013, our very first Studio4 resident artist hosted her show.

Works produced included hand drawings using Indian ink, one of which was a monumental i, that towered in the studio.

The show started with a mesmeric performance with Hannah Gledhill (h-grimace) and Asher Preston (h-grimace and Modern Borders), which was then followed with a thought provoking performance with Vivienne Griffin, Cian McConn and Kaspars Groshevs .

Vivienne Griffin graduated from Hunter College MFA, NYC in 2010 with the support of a Fulbright Scholarship. She currently lives and works in London. Previous shows include The Show House, December 2012 in two adjoining London apartments, and an upcoming solo show in February 2013 Bureau Inc, New York.
