On March 19th, Lawdale Film Project visited Chisenhale Art Place.
The visit started with a look at Studio4, and a talk with the current resident, Sheena Macrae.
Sheena showed her film work to the children, who themselves are creating an abstract film. Sheena shared some of her ideas and techniques, in particular her use of layering.
The young film makers were so excited to take back the ideas and eager to experiment and apply them to their filmmaking. It was particularly useful for them to see an artist working in their own environment of a studio.
The children then visited the Chisenhale Gallery. Here they were able to experience the next stage of artistic practice, the exhibiton of work in a Gallery environment: Corin Sworn’s The Rag Papers.

Six week Evening course
Starts Thursday April 18th
Over six Thursday evenings, April 18th – May 23rd we’ll make a series of 6 paintings using the chosen colour palettes of 6 artists, who used colour in highly original ways.
Working with artist Kate Hardy, participants will discover the colour choices of Gwen John, Helen Frankenthaler, John Virtue, Henri Matisse, Giorgio Morandi, and Vincent Van Gogh, and then find their own individual ways of using these colour palettes.
With a wide variety of subject matter, this course is suitable for adults at all levels of painting experience including beginners. Cost for the 6 weeks course is £90.
Please contact 07946814317 with any questions.
Line and Tone Mostly when we paint and draw we use a combination of the two, but in these sessions we will start by separating them – contrasting drawings using just lines with those using shade and tone. We’ll start small and relatively quick – each picture will lead to the next – this could be making drawings from paintings, collage from paintings, a combination or vice versa!
Thursday classes will start on 28th February after half term from 7.30 – 9.30 and because of the timing of the Easter holidays will end on March 28th – so it’ll be a 5 week course
NB: although the classes start at 7.30 – 9.30, you are welcome to come earlier (from 7.00), as Emma will be there – just phone or text to let her know. However, she prefers not stay later than 9.30!
Fee for the five week course: £75, payable at the first class.
