Public Programme Studio: Alina Kisina

3 November, 2015  |  Education Studio, Featured, Public Programme

Alina Post

We’d like to welcome Alina Kisina into the Public Programme Studio.
The holder of this particular studio works strategically with CAP staff to develop a range of project based activities and public events over a period of 18 months.
Kisina was selected for her plans to use photography to encourage people to tell their own stories through the use of photography.
Already supporting local group Shutter Nutters, Kisina wants to extend her passion to support others who think they are not creative or ‘good’ enough in discovering their ability to express themselves and tell their story through photography.

If you know of any individuals or groups who might be interested in getting involved, please get in touch via Yasmin@chisenhale.co.uk

Vacancy: Public Programme Studio

10 September, 2015  |  Education Studio, Public Programme

Chisenhale Art Place has its Public Programme Studio available for an eighteen month let. This is for an artist whose work, or an element of their work, seeks to engage and collaborate with the general public as a means of production.

  • 458 sq ft.
  • £238per month (currently. An increase is expected).
  • 2nd floor, with no lift access. South facing.
  • Available from 1st November for 18 months.
  • £240 deposit
  • Sole artist use only.
  • No central heating or telephone line installed.

Chisenhale Art Place, which manages Chisenhale Studios, continually develops a diversity of artists and ideas contributing to its unique public education programme. The artist making use of this particular studio will contribute strategically to that programme, through development of project-based activities or public events. Our staff help develop ideas in this area and undertake fundraising as appropriate, to ensure the artist is paid a fee for these projects. It would therefore suit an artist whose work is participatory in nature and would benefit from working with Chisenhale Art Place’s audiences and members. The remit isn’t however solely focused on Chisenhale – we expect the recipient would also have other work they are undertaking, which requires the use of the studio.

To apply, please submit a short profile of your practice, a current CV and a brief proposal of no more than one page on how you might use the eighteen months in the studio and how it would enhance your career. We strongly recommend you visit our website to get an idea of the kinds of projects we undertake and/or talk to our Arts Manager to discuss.

Deadline for applications is 10 am, 24th September 2015.  A shortlist of applicants will be made and interviews held the week of 5th October, likely 7th Oct.

Send applications to:

Studio News: Haydn Jones has joined Chisenhale Studios for an eighteen month period in the Public Programme Studio.

Haydn recently graduated from Goldsmith’s with a MFA in Computational Studio Arts.  Within the  PP studio he will explore an open approach making art: directly engaging the public in the physical space and also through the documentation and transmission of online and digitally developed works.

We welcome Haydn and look forward to collaborating on programme ideas in the New Year.

Education Studio

22 June, 2012  |  Education Studio, Public Programme

We have one studio which is set aside as an Education Studio. It is offered for one year to an artist who has a socially engaged practice and the Public Programme Coordinator works with them to develop projects. The previous residents of the Education Studio were Charlotte Mew and Tom Hobson and the current resident is Rachel Oxley.

Rachel’s practice focuses on creating live and time-based artworks for a range of contexts. The work is concerned with the dynamics, possibilities and limits of communication and often highlights the absurdities, connections and frustrations of everyday interactions. For her time at Chisenhale Studios, Rachel is developing a pilot programme of collaborative workshops and events.

We do not keep a waiting list for the Education studio. Instead we advertise it in local e-lists such as Arts Admin and Tower Hamlets Arts & Events. If you email us, we will advise you when we are next advertising.  Please include ‘ Education Studio availability’ in the Subject line.
