Volunteers Needed for Children’s Projects at Chisenhale Art Place

Chisenhale Art Place is a unique centre for artists, art production, education, performance and exhibition. Located next to the canal, close to Victoria Park, Chisenhale Art Place has occupied the former veneer factory and brewery buildings on Chisenhale Road since 1980. It provides a supportive workplace and vibrant public platform for London’s East End art community, local and international audiences.  We are currently looking for volunteers to support delivery of the public programme.

Post 1
Film Project taking place at a primary school in Tower Hamlets

This project introduces children to the world of film making, giving them the opportunity to make decisions about the process at every level.  The children explore all aspects of film making from start to finish, from script writing to story boarding to acting the parts.  They also experience every crew role, from director and camera person to clapperboard.

The project has been led by film artist Lisa Nash over the last five years, with support from Chisenhale Art Place, Help a Capital Child and most importantly, from the School itself who is now funding it directly.   The school strongly values the use of art to embrace the learning process and is very keen to have film as a continuing presence. The projects have had a very positive impact on school life, including parental involvement.  This is fueled by the children’s excitement and pride in the work they are producing, which brings record attendance from parents participating and attending screenings.

We are now looking for someone to help support the lead artist in delivering this project over one school term. This is a great opportunity for an artist to take part in a highly successful project that helps promote the importance of teaching art at primary school level. It will especially benefit those who would like to become involved in delivering educational projects themselves.

Dates and Times
Every Monday during the spring term, starting 11th Jan through to March 19th excluding half term (week of 15th Feb).
9am – 4.30pm

Post 2
Volunteer Assistant for Saturday Art classes for Children

We run regular family art workshops most Saturday mornings during term time.
The workshops are delivered by a different artist each month and encourage children and parents to learn fun new art ideas that they can also do together at home.  These sessions are part of our vibrant and varied public education and outreach programme that responds to the needs of our local community and the wider artistic community.

We are looking for someone to support the lead artist for 2-3 hours on each Saturday, or to develop a pool of volunteers to do so. It’s a good opportunity for art graduates who want to gain experience on how to lead public art workshops and be involved with an art organisation.

Dates and Time
Saturdays during Winter term time (initially)
10am – 1pm

If you are interested in volunteering please email Yasmin Kauser at yasmin@chisenhale.co.uk with your CV and tell us a little about yourself.  Could you also please state the post in which you are interested?  Volunteers receive a sessional per diem to cover travel and subsistence. They must be willing to undertake a Disclosure & Barring check, which is offered for free.

Opportunities

Volunteers Needed

We are seeking a team of wonderful volunteers to support a very special Open Weekend celebrating over 30 years of art production, exhibition, dance and performance at Chisenhale Art Place.

Many activities and events are planned to take place over the weekend and we are expecting it to be very busy with visitors.  We want to ensure everyone taking part has the best possible experience and volunteers play a key part within that.

Are you free to come and join us?

About the Open Weekend

Chisenhale Art Place Open Weekend will take place on 27-29th September.  The three days will be a celebration of Chisenhale Art Place’s history and role in the artistic development of London’s East End (and beyond!), and will also highlight the incredible work being produced, commissioned, exhibited and performed right now.  Many of the people who have contributed to our success over the years will be joining us that weekend for a unique programme of talks, events and open studios, in addition to on-going exhibitions, classes and activities.

Dates and Times

27th September 2013 6-9pm
28-29th September 12.00pm – 6.00pm

Volunteers Roles

1. Assist with directing the public around the building.
2. Interact with the visitors; help them engage with the various events and activities that will be going on.
3. Help us set up and take down any of the materials needed for the workshops or events.
4. Have fun!

The Weekend will be busy as it is open to the public but there will be plenty of opportunity for volunteers to engage with artists and staff. Volunteers must be over 18 years of age and should have an interest in art and/or undertaking study in relevant subject.

More details will be sent out to all volunteers and an informal briefing will be organised before the event.  We are able to pay a per diem to help cover travel and expenses.

Chisenhale Art Place is home to 40 artist’s studios and two arts organisations; Chisenhale Dance Space and Chisenhale Gallery.  The Open Weekend celebrates all activities but volunteers are primarily required for the larger studio area of the building.   More organisational information can be found on

http://chisenhale.co.uk/chisenhale/

If you are interested in volunteering that weekend please email yasmin@chisenhale.co.uk with your CV and tell us a little about yourself.  Could you also please state if you are available for the full weekend?

We will reply by the 13th of September 2013
