Tuesdays 7-9.30
For six weeks starting 23rd January (last day is 27th February)
Cost is £60, payable in advance to secure a place.
This is a beginners ceramic course that will explain the basic techniques of hand building, glazing and decorating clay. It is a hands on experience and participants will make at least one finished piece to take home.
During the first three weeks the course will focus on understanding how to build and decorate with clay using different methods: carving, coiling, pinching, press molding and slab building. Alongside these practical exercises participants will also learn the basic theory behind the alchemic process of glazing and firing the clay in the kiln. The last three weeks will focus on planning, designing and developing your personal project by applying what you have learned. The piece will be glazed, fired and taken home.
The course will be taught by Paulina Michnowska, an artist who creates visual allegories in clay. These are often humorous, rooted in autobiographical anecdotes, historical folklore and the dullness of mundanity.
Please book directly with Paulina. Payment must be made before places can be confirmed.
