Chisenhale Art Place is an arts education charity.  It is a place for sharing and exchange, and the incoming artist should have an interest in contributing to that. Our studios also are, per square foot, amongst some of the lowest priced  in London. For this reason we favour applicants who might otherwise struggle to meet the financial demands of dedicated, daily studio practice. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate that they will maximise the opportunities that come with a studio in an established organisation.

This particular studio is a little different from our other studios and it is important you understand the pros and cons. It is a corner studio, with a window on the south side and french doors on the west side. The doors provide access to the lower roof, so we do from time to time need to go through the studio with roofers. But the benefit is that  you can throw open the doors when you’re in the studio (but not use the roof…sorry!).

Due to its set up, there isn’t a huge amount of flat wall space. There is one long continuous side wall against the studio next door but it’s limited on the other three walls. So perhaps not a studio for a painter.

More organisational information can be found on our website www.chisenhale.co.uk/studios.  Do also see our instagram accounts

To apply: Please provide a short written profile of your practice. Then tell us about the challenges you currently face in terms of studio space, how a studio  here will help overcome and how you will use this particular space to make work.  We’d also like to know how you might contribute to the public benefit we aim to provide. Finally, please include a current CV and a few images of your work to contextualise your practice.

We very much welcome applications from Black, Asian and Ethic Minority artists who are significantly under-represented in the affordable artists studio network.  Applications can be accepted from two artists who wish to share, but only one person may be the member who would be responsible for the second.

Please combine all the requested info into a single pdf file, no more than five pages and 5mb.  Please ensure you include your name within the file name.

Applications should be emailed to studios@chisenhale.co.uk
by **10am on 14th June 2021**
(but any queries sent to andrea@chisenhale.co.uk)

The studio will be available for viewing at the time of interview, which will be either 28th or 29th June (we’ll confirm asap).  If you are not available on those dates, please say so in your application.

Note we’ll also have a studio of the same size & cost available later in the year.
