From January through March 2014, David MacDiarmid will work in an emerging new space in Studio 3 to produce a new body of sculptures, maquettes and experiments that challenge his idea of the value of the finished outcome in his practice. This will include re-examining the importance of the developmental materials he uses and questioning whether they are legitimate choices for the final work itself. His investigations might counterbalance ideas that the “finished” work is concerned with perfection and that reaching it marks the conclusion of a particular process. In addition to regular sharing events, David will be blogging about his investigations to wider audiences.
