The 40 artists studios and the two arts organisations, Chisenhale Gallery and Chisenhale Dance Space took part in the Chisenhale Art Place Open Weekend during which the whole building was open to the public.
The artists opened their studios throughout the weekend and there were guided tours of the studios on Saturday and Sunday during which artists gave short talks about their work.
John Frankland, an internationally acclaimed artist gave a talk, accompanied by stunning visuals about Boulder, his ambitious public sculpture that is currently sited in Mabley Green and Shoreditch Park, both within walking distance of Chisenhale Art Place.
Intoart, London based artist collective that includes people who have a learning disability talked about their work. One of the artists Ntiense Eno- Amooquaye gave an active talk/demonstration of her working practice.
Phyllida Barlow, renowned contemporary sculptor, gave an informal, intensely insightful talk, in the Carl Plackman studio, about Carl’s work and its influence on a generation of sculptors. This was a unique opportunity to experience Carl’s work in the space in which it was created.
Chisenhale Gallery
Chisenhale Gallery’s ongoing exhibition was a major solo show by British artist Tariq Alvi.
For his exhibition at Chisenhale Gallery Alvi created a site-specific installation exploring ideas of value and exchange.
On Saturday, the Gallery held a Family Day. Artist Sarah Doyle facilitated a free drop-in art workshop inspired by Tariq Alvi’s exhibition that was suitable for all ages.
Chisenhale Dance Space
The Dance Space was open for business all weekend, with rehearsals and classes for children and professionals running as usual.
On Sunday, the Dance Space hosted a Family Day. Resident dance tutors facilitated free drop-in taster classes for children in a range of dance styles from classical to street dance.
