We worked on landscape painting with Malcolm Jones over five weeks. We first visited Malcolm’s studio where he showed us his work. He showed us examples of his earlier landscapes ; his current work, which is abstract, is based on landscape. He spoke to us about the techniques and methods he uses to generate the visual images he was looking for in this earlier work, photography, drawing and collage. We also took photographs and made drawings of parts of the local area that interested us. From these, we created a collaged image which we used to create paintings using acrylic paints. Malcolm showed us how to use the paint and brushes to create the effects we wanted. It was brilliant to work with good quality materials and to feel the you were beginning to know what could be done with them and to understand how to use them.
